ReNaissances in Costume Exhibition. Join the Dance!
European Heritage Days, 19, 20 and 21 September 2025

During the European Heritage Days, the Institut de France is pleased to present costumes made by the young patients of the Hôpital d’Enfants Margency, French Red Cross.

They were created as part of a visual arts workshop, Sur un lit de couleurs, led by visual artist Caroline Desnoëttes. Visitors will be able to admire the inventiveness of these young artists, aged 6 to 17, who have given new life to expired medical items and turned them into works full of imagination and whimsy. For two days, the Salon des Conversations of the Institut’s palace thus becomes the setting for an inspiring dialogue between art and health. A delightful escape!

The Institut de France, the French Red Cross’s Hôpital d’Enfants Margency (HEM) and visual artist Caroline Desnoëttes joined forces to create the cultural and artistic project NOS VICTOIRES (Our Victories). The project received financial support from the Sur un Lit de Couleurs association.

The young patients discovered the Institut de France thanks to academician Emmanuel Guibert and Catherine Dalarun. Over six months, working alongside the artist, they created a striking sculpture, NOS VICTOIRES, from expired medical supplies: gowns, surgical caps, masks, rectal tubes, saline bags… Inspired by the Winged Victory of Samothrace, the work emblematically tells the story of the small, medium and great victories these young people achieved throughout their treatment and their life at the HEM. On 26 May, the young artists had the honour of exhibiting it beneath the dome of the Institut de France and sharing the story of their victories.

The Institut de France also opened its doors wide to the young patients by allowing them to exhibit, during the European Heritage Days, 7 costumes made from expired medical supplies, created through the partnership with the Musée National de la Renaissance, Château d'Écouen.
